There’s nothing irritating than a red wine stain, especially if it involves new white shirt, Persian carpet, or leather couch. Absolutely irritating! There’s no other way than going to a professional cleaner when you got red wine stain on your carpet or leather. The sooner the better. But when it stains your white shirt, I have tried so many tricks I heard from friends or from internet. Here’s what works and what’s not.
White Wine Although so many people suggest me to pour a little bit of white wine to a red wine stain to remove it, but it just never work for me. I tried different white wine from different vintage and the stains just never fade. Instead of wasting my white wine, I prefer to try something different.
Salt Applying some salt and a bit of water to a red wine stain is believed to remove the stain completely, but in my case, it just gets messier. Not interested to try for the second time
Our Own Saliva I’m not joking. For a fresh stain, this works better than white wine or salt! But it won’t work for old stain. It seems that the enzyme in our saliva can break down the stain quite quickly. The only drawback is when your friend sees you licking your own white shirt, which may not seems quite appetizing.
Detergent with Stain Remover Some detergents are now strengthen with stain remover compound, which is quite strong in removing ANY stain, including a red wine stain. I tried this kind of detergent with fresh stain and old stain, but it works wonder only with fresh stain.
Professional Cleaner Most of the laundry and dry cleaners in Jakarta are able to help you with this annoying stain. I think it’s the most efficient way of removing your wine stain without risking your shirt in any way.
Wine Stain Remover You can buy some wine remover formula like Wine Away from internet. I found it’s quite good and effective. I also have one at home for emergency purposes and it works quite well for fresh stain. It also works for upholstery and rugs.
